We've partnered with the Wikimedia Foundation to adopt a tool called Flickr2Commons. We want to look after it and extend its features with the long term in mind. Keep your eyes open for "Flickypedia", which we plan to re-release towards the end of the year.

A representative of the Wikimedia Foundation elaborated that they would be working together with the Flickr Foundation and that future updates would be posted on Commons:WMF support for Commons.

@Abzeronow and Donald Trung: here's the final draft. are you satisfied?--RZuo (talk) 15:46, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, I am. Abzeronow (talk) 15:51, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It looks ready to be published. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 18:31, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Discussion[edit]

i do not recommend including a logo in each issue, because it's not necessary (not carrying any message) and will be repetitive.

it's ok to put it on the main page or whatever though.

my opinion about this file is it looks ugly, because afaict it's horizontally squashed? why?--RZuo (talk) 11:17, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

RZuo, feel free to remove it if you think that it looks ugly. -- it's likely squashed because I tried editing it in Inkscape, but the font didn't co-operate well with how its displayed, it looks good in Inkscape, but the moment I uploaded it it had display issues. Also, The Wikipedia Signpost uses "In the news", but I'm not sure if that should be used for mere technical developments and announcements. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 11:18, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Donald Trung: you should also put down your name in the editors.--RZuo (talk) 10:23, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

✓ Done ✅. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:45, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You may want to put Nigeria's change to their FOP in "In Other News" section since Nigeria changed their laws to something not acceptable for Commons. Abzeronow (talk) 18:21, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Abzeronow can you plz directly write a draft with references? RZuo (talk) 18:35, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, I can. I'll write up the draft in my Wikipedia Sandbox, and I'll put it in draft above when I'm finished. I'll see if I can finish within an hour. Abzeronow (talk) 19:08, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Copyright Changes Corner[edit]

On March 17, 2023, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Copyright Bill of 2022 into law[1]. It repealed the Copyright Act of 2004. It made changes to better synchronize with treaties such as the w:Marrakesh VIP Treaty and the w:Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances[2] and adopted a fair dealing exemption more in line with the United States than the previous law. [2]. As detailed in COM:FOP Nigeria, the new law says "the inclusion in an audiovisual work or a broadcast of an artistic work situated in a place where it can be viewed by the public."[No.8/2022 Sec. 20(1)(e)], whereas the now repealed law said ""The right conferred in respect of a work by section 5 of this Act does not include the right to control ... the reproduction and distribution of copies of any artistic work permanently situated in a place where it can be viewed by the public" which was similar to British FOP law. Since photographs are neither an audiovisual work or a broadcast, there would be no Freedom of Panorama exception for new uploads to Wikimedia Commons after March 17, 2023. The new law is not retroactive so files uploaded before March 17, 2023 would still have FOP apply.--Abzeronow (talk) 19:39, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Abzeronow: i wrote a summary and moved your passage here. if you dont object, i'd post it to Commons talk:Copyright rules by territory/Nigeria and link it in the summary.
one question though. does it mean videos of publicly visible works can be uploaded?
besides, this happened in march, 3 months ago. it's not newsworthy anymore.--RZuo (talk) 21:14, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I realize that it's a little bit late but my attention was only called to it this month, and the FOP section for Nigeria was only changed in June. I could also expand a little more about the changes if you're going to link a "see more about this" since there were changes that I didn't list to keep it somewhat brief. Abzeronow (talk) 15:26, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
yes plz. i prefer keeping the newsletter concise, so i wrote down only the gist (hopefully i got it right) and its relevance to commons. any in-depth reports can be linked to let interested users go there.--RZuo (talk) 15:46, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
i copy pasted your passage there.--RZuo (talk) 18:44, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
